Introducing: The Corsa Sneaker
For almost two years, we have been sitting on a secret—and it has not been easy! Our first sneaker is finally here. Months of creative and material research went into this launch—our founder has, at this point, practically earned a PhD in shoelaces. The rest came from the kind of close, obsessive collaboration with our beloved factory in Friuli that is, quite simply, the only way we know how to work. We are so proud and beyond thrilled to finally share the Corsa Sneaker with you!
Although the Friulane is and always will be the core and essence of our brand, we are always looking to grow in ways that feel genuinely true to who we are. And so, that is how the Corsa came to be: not only as a way to satisfy our own needs, but as a natural extension of the things we feel most passionate about and actually reach for every day. “My first dabble in this world came years ago— as teenagers, my brother, a true sneaker aficionado, and I wanted to launch our own line. It never happened, but the spark was always there. I have always been drawn to them— everyone likes the airport for people watching, but I am there for the shoe watch,” shares our founder, Sofia Lombardi, who drew over 30 sketches before landing on the final design.
Similar to our boat shoes, when we are coming up with a new silhouette, we do a genuine deep dive, figuring out what will really stand the test of time, but also, what will feel like 1000% Viani. A constant in our inspiration archives included archival runners from the 70’s and 80’s, an era of effortless, understated athleticism that felt as at home on the streets of Milan as on a track. A silhouette that has never stopped feeling relevant, and one that we felt was very much in line with the Viani way. “The canvas for creation is a little bigger with a sneaker than with a traditional slipper, and I genuinely enjoyed the experimentation that came with that. There are more lines to a sportier shoe, and it allows for playing around with more materials like leather and suede, and our two-toned laces. Every line in this shoe is intentional”. The final product embodies everything that makes our shoes resonate with our girl: comfort, practicality, uncompromising quality and of course–clever color combinations.
The six styles, developed by the same artisans who create our Friulane, are refreshingly lightweight and as travel-friendly as everything we make. Rooted in artisanal savoir-faire, they are crafted from our softer-than-soft Italian suede with contrasting leather trims. The palette is nothing short of a spectacle: from bold cherry to playful pistachio, and a divine spotted deer velvet, the Cortina Bambi, which has already become an obsession among the Viani team. The squared toe, not unlike our bestselling Double Mary Jane, delivers the chic and the fit we refuse to compromise on. The rubber soles provide both traction and comfort, as does the cushioned insole. And then there are the laces. Sourced from Ancona, Italy, each paracord style was chosen as deliberately as any other element of the shoe: color, pattern, and texture considered in relation to the full design. Because at Viani, nothing is an afterthought.
This one has been a long time coming, and now that it is finally here, we find ourselves almost more excited about what comes next: watching you wear them!
